5 Things To Know About Amazon Halo

Welcome to GetMojo. We do the research so you don’t have to. In this article, we’re taking a look at the highly anticipated Amazon Halo App and Halo Band. With these products, tech giant Amazon is taking a step into the realm of personal health and wellness, and we’re here to break down 5 things you should know about them before you buy. Let’s get into it!

5. It’s a fitness tracker, not a smartwatch

Unlike the popular Apple Watch and Fitbit Versa, the Halo Band does not have a screen and won’t bombard you with notifications. Instead, Amazon has decided to go with a “distraction free” approach that focuses more on collecting data throughout the day so that you can check it out later. The band itself is water resistant and the battery lasts up to seven days on a single charge. It also comes in a variety of colors. The band retails for $99.99 but you can get it for $64.99 during the Early Access period.

4. Information is displayed in the Halo app

To access the information gathered by your Halo Band, you will need to have the subscription-based Halo App installed on your smartphone. The app is designed to not only display readings from the band, but also help users implement strategies for improving their health and wellness. The app is divided into five main sections to help you easily navigate and find the information you need. Amazon insists that many layers of privacy protection have been developed to ensure that personal data is safe and in total control of the user. The app is free for the first 6 months and $3.99/month after that.

3. It can track body fat percentage

Using your phone’s camera to create a 3D scan of your body, the app can use “computer vision technology” to measure the user’s body fat percentage. Although the app does not measure body fat directly, it uses machine learning to analyze photos and determine the amount of fat on a person based on the proportions of their body. Amazon claims that its analysis is “as accurate as methods a doctor would use,” and twice as accurate as most at home smart scales.

2. It can analyze the emotional tone of your voice

Another novel feature of Halo is its Tone function, which analyzes the user’s voice to determine their mood, energy and stress level, and help them communicate more effectively with those around them. The innovative feature puts mental health front and center and is aimed at helping people understand how they are being perceived by others, thereby allowing them to improve their relationships and have better control over their emotions.

1. It can also track your sleep, activity and skin temperature

Alongside these more unique features, the Halo also has many of the same functions as other leading smartwatches and fitness trackers. The band and app can track activity levels, as well as quality of sleep through monitoring of motion, heart rate, and temperature. All this is tied together with a points system which adds or subtracts based on these metrics. It also includes a feature called Labs which contains challenges, experiments and workouts that can help users push themselves and improve their overall health and performance on a daily basis.

So what do you think of Amazon’s new Halo products? Will you try them out or stick to more established brands in the health-tech scene like Apple and Fitbit? Stay tuned to GetMojo for the most complete video product reviews.

Priced at around $70, it offers an eight hour battery life and has been praised for its clean, crisp sound. And for added style, it’s even available in a range of funky colors. Review website wirecutter said it’s as “as euphonious as Ariana Grande but as tough as Lara Croft.”

If you prefer your wireless speakers to be a little bit smarter, then why not just go for a smart speaker! As well as offering wireless bluetooth speaker capabilities, the Amazon Echo also offers a myriad of smart features with Alexa voice control. JBL Clip 2

Tribit MaxSound Plus

The Deluxe Option: Sonos Move

With a 10-hour battery life, Alexa and Google Assistant compatibility, and the availability of Auto TruePlay – a feature that automatically optimises the speaker’s audio for whatever you’re listening to – this is a pretty serious piece of gear. Techradar called it “the best Bluetooth speaker in the world.”

So which bluetooth speaker should you choose? Well, aside from sound quality, durability and privacy concerns, battery life is one of the biggest differences with wireless speakers, so be sure to check that spec out and make sure it suits your needs before buying.

Tips for Sleeping Better on Vacation

Tips for Sleeping Better on Vacation

Travel is notorious for disrupting sleep schedules. Jumping on a plane can cause serious jetlag and requires adjusting to a new time zone, and the overall lack of familiarity with your new sleeping arrangement can make getting a good night’s sleep difficult. Feeling drowsy on your vacation can ruin your fun plans and even present dangers, such as a lack of awareness in a foreign area or driving drowsy on a road trip. Following these tips for sleeping better on vacation, will help keep you alert and ready for the trip ahead of you.

Plan Ahead

If you know you are traveling to a location in a different time zone, start preparing a few days before your trip. Try to adjust your sleep schedule by one hour every night. As you get closer to the trip, you will be closer to sleeping on a similar schedule, making the adjustment less drastic when you arrive. Wearable devices such as the Amazon Halo Band makes it super easy to analyze patterns like how often you wake up during the night.

Follow the Locals

Whether you are flying or driving to your location, it can be tempting to keep your regular daily schedule. Instead, follow what the locals do. If you arrive in the afternoon when everyone is awake, avoid going back to sleep, as this can keep you up all night and interfere with your ability to regulate your sleep schedule for the rest of the trip.

Your Bedtime Rituals

Sleeping in a new location can be a hard adjustment for your body. Mimicking your bedtime rituals from home can help you fall asleep more easily. Follow your same nightly routine, such as sleeping on the same side of the bed and turning the thermostat to a familiar temperature.

Exercise

If your trip includes plenty of on-the-go activities, you likely won’t need to add any extra exercise to your itinerary. On the other hand, if your vacation is full of relaxation and lounging by the pool, try to do something active during the day. Too much relaxation can make it difficult to fall asleep at the end of the night. Going for a walk during the day or no more than two hours before you plan to sleep can get your blood flowing and your body ready for better sleep.

Traveling to new locations, whether they are in a different time zone or just an unfamiliar location, can make sleeping seem impossible. Following these tips for sleeping better on vacation will make sure you stay fully rested on your trip.

The Best DIY Hacks for Cosplay

The Best DIY Hacks for Cosplay

Anyone can cosplay, no matter your age, shape, or background. Still, any of the best DIY hacks for cosplay will save you money and time from laborious sewing and crafting. Take note of each of these hacks and how they can better your cosplay experience and costume design.

Think Outside the Box with Costume Materials

Even if it’s not your first cosplay experience, you don’t need to be an expert sewer or knitter to create an elaborate piece. Instead, get creative with your costume materials. For instance, puff paint creates a great fake embroidery that will baffle others. Embroidery is not an easy skill, but you can create the same illusion using puff paint as a base. Outline the detail in puff paint and sew around this layer for the visual effect. Another trick is to use hand socks for unnatural skin colors, including green, purple, red, or blue. Instead of painting your whole body this color, have a set of colored gloves that match the desired skin tone. You’ll save precious time and energy from painting your whole body, especially if you’ll be attending a hot, crowded convention later.

Hot Glue Goes a Long Way

Another great DIY trick is to use hot glue. Hot glue guns are great for cosplay because they can create perfect miniature details. You might not be a skilled artist, and that’s perfectly okay. Consider hot glue as a cheap, easy option. Simply trace over your design with hot glue, whether armor, clothes, or accessories. Highlighting a shield or tiara is easy with this hack. Hot glue remains in place for a considerable amount of time after it dries, meaning you won’t need to fuss with the finished result.

Take Time Finding Fabrics

Every cosplayer knows the importance of finding the right cosplay fabrics for their costume. Still, at the end of the day, everyone just wants to look their best. That’s why you must take the time to find the best fabrics for your specific costume. Some of the most popular options include natural fibers, like cotton, linen, and silk, or synthetic fibers, like nylon, spandex, or neoprene. Each of these has its own advantages and disadvantages, so take your time researching each one and how it fits your character. For example, a Renaissance period costume requires wool but not spandex, or vice versa for a modern superhero’s costume, depending on the level of authenticity you desire.

Save Some Money and Thrift

The final DIY hack for cosplay is to hit the thrift shop. Thrifting is one of the easiest ways to save money in cosplay, especially for those who frequently wear or create different costumes. While creating a costume from scratch is fun, materials and labor cost time and money. Do yourself and your wallet a favor and thrift shop for older or previously worn clothes, as these are cheaper than costume stores or other retail outlets. Thrift stores also have different styles and sizes that are great for experimenting with different looks.

And when all else fails, you can always consult The Cosplay Handbook and watch our video on the Top 10 Famous Cosplayers for some inspiration!

Apple AirPods VS AirPods Pro

Welcome to GetMojo. We do the research so you don’t have to. In this video we’re going head to head with two competing products to see which one is right for you!

Apple’s AirPods have become the gold standard for wireless earbuds since they were first introduced in 2016. Now in their second generation, they’ve proven to be extremely popular, and were taken to the next level with the release of the AirPods Pro in 2019. But which version should you get? We’ll be breaking down the pros and cons of each product to help you make your decision. Here we go!

Price

Unsurprisingly, the regular AirPods come out on top in this category. While they’re by no means “cheap” at $159 with a wired charging case, or $199 with a wireless charging case, the AirPods Pro cost $249 right out of the gate. For anyone who’s on a budget or not concerned with extra bells and whistles, we recommend going with the standard AirPods. But if you do want to spend a bit more, what do you get for the extra money?

Winner: Airpods

Features

This is the category where the AirPods Pro shine because they actually do offer a considerable number of cool features over the standard model, somewhat justifying the higher price tag. The biggest difference is that the AirPods Pro offer active noise cancellation and adaptive EQ, which can greatly enhance your listening experience if you’re wearing your pods in a noisy environment. They’ve also got a nifty pressure valve that can regulate air pressure in your ear for extra comfort. While basic AirPods are described as a “universal fit” and cannot be altered, the Pro ‘pods offer a number of custom silicone eartips, allowing a more personalized fit for the shape of your ear. The Pros are also water- and sweat-resistant, making them the better choice for outdoor use or at the gym. The one area where the AirPods Pro do lag behind is battery life with up to 4 and a half hours of listening time per charge compared to the base model’s 5 hours.

There are also many features that both models share, including the H1 chip introduced for the second generation AirPods. which allows for better connectivity, quicker response and the ability to have the “Hey Siri” feature active at all times. All models of AirPods also come with a charging case which can extend listening time to over 24 hours.

Winner: AirPods Pro

Wildcard Round

There are a number of miscellaneous categories where the AirPods Pro surpasses the standard AirPods. As you might imagine, being Apple products, build quality is solid for both versions. However, the added water resistance of the AirPods Pro makes them considerably more durable in wet situations.

As for sound quality, both models have generally favorable reviews, and Techradar claims they have “fairly similar sound quality with only minor differences in the soundstage / clarity.” That said, the Pros’ Adaptive EQ and active noise cancellation gives them the slight edge over the standard pods in the sound department.

Both models subscribe to Apple’s minimalist aesthetic, but the AirPods Pro are noticeably shorter and chunkier than their cousins. As a result, their charging case is also shorter and wider. And speaking of the charging cases, Apple offers custom engraving on both models with text or emojis, for those who want to stand out with a unique look.

Winner: AirPods Pro

Verdict:

Well, there you have it. If you’re able to shell out the extra money, we’d recommend going for the AirPods Pro. But, if you’re someone who doesn’t want or need the extra features, the more affordable AirPods may be the ones for you. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned to GetMojo for the most complete video product reviews.

Top 5 Best Leaf Blowers (2020)

Welcome to GetMojo, we do the research so you don’t have to! In this video, we’re offering our picks for the 5 best leaf blowers on the market in 2020.

A decent leaf blower can save you tons of time in your yard. But as with any other garden tool, when it comes to buying one, the choices available can be a bit overwhelming. But not to worry, we’ve got you covered. To help you decide which leaf blower is right for you, we’ve sifted through numerous website and consumer reviews to present our 5 recommended products.

Note: Clicking links in this article may generate affiliate revenue for GetMojo.

The Front Runner: Toro UltraPlus Leaf Blower Vacuum

Although gas and cordless leaf blower options are plentiful, this corded electric model is still one of the best. Capable of generating powerful air flows, what it lacks in portability, it makes up for in versatility, with the ability to function as a conventional leaf blower as well as a vacuum and mulcher. And due to it being corded, it offers unlimited runtime. It represents excellent value for money too, being priced at just $115.

The Battery-Powered One: Greenworks PRO 80V Cordless Brushless Axial Blower

For those who want to be a bit more mobile, Greenworks has this 80V battery-powered model that does away with the power cord, and gives you up to 70 minutes of runtime. For around $200, this leaf blower gives you 3-speeds to choose from, a variable trigger, and 500 cubic feet per minute of air flow, at speeds of up to 125 miles per hour. Happy Amazon consumers commented on the ample power of this blower, with one user simply stating that “It’s a beast!”

The Gas-Powered One: Echo PB-2520

For all the purists out there, Echo has this gas-powered blower, which utilises a 25.4cc engine and can generate up to 453 cubic feet per minute of air flow at speeds of up to 170mph. It’s bafflingly lightweight too when you consider its power output, as it weighs just 8.6 pounds. Priced at $150, this gas-powered model is great for those who are perhaps working in remote areas and need a reliable, no-electricity-required option.

The Backpack Option: Husqvarna 350BT Backpack Blower

If you’re looking to tackle particularly long jobs – or big yards – then a backpack blower is a great way to go. Not only are they more comfortable when using for an extended period of time, but they usually tend to be a little bigger, and therefore pack more of a punch. This $300 model generates 692 cubic feet per minute of air flow at up to 251 miles per hour, thanks to its 2.1hp X-Torq engine. It even comes with an adjustable tube length, a cruise control function, variable speed throttle and a padded harness and hipbelt for added comfort.

Before we reveal our last pick, here are a few other great leaf blower models for you to consider:

Greenworks Electric Blower

Toro PowerJet F700

Sun Joe Electric Leaf Blower

The Budget Option: WORX WG520 Turbine Electric Leaf Blower

At just $60, it’s no surprise that this blower is corded, but if you want a solid model at a very reasonable price, then it’s an excellent choice. And although this model is affordable, it still packs a punch, with the 600 in its name representing its 600 cubic feet per minute air volume, which goes alongside its 110 mph speed. The Turbine 600 model comes highly praised by a lot of big review sites, including thestrategist, businessinsider and wirecutter, with the latter naming it as its overall runner-up leaf blower pick.

So which leaf blower should you choose? Well, whether or not a corded model is an option for you will help narrow options down. Apart from that, comfort has a lot to do with it, so be sure to check out things like convenience features – such as variable power modes and nozzle lengths – before buying.

Top 5 Solar Chargers (2020)

Welcome to GetMojo. We do the research so you don’t have to. In this video we’re offering our picks for the 5 best solar chargers on the market in 2020.

Solar chargers offer a great solution for people who need to carry a little extra juice for their phones and other electronic devices, and who spend a lot of time outside. As opposed to standard battery packs, solar chargers offer the advantage of producing virtually unlimited power under sunny conditions. But which one should you buy?

To aid you in your search, we’ve sifted through numerous website and consumer reviews to present our 5 recommended products. So, first up.

The Front Runner: BigBlue 28W Solar Charger

Wirecutter picked this model as the best solar charger on the market, noting that it produces more power than its competition, while being smaller and lighter. The BigBlue 28W features 3 USB charging ports with Smart Charging Technology, which provides different charging speeds depending on the devices plugged in. It is fairly compact, and light enough to easily fit into a backpack or camping bag. Its four panels can convert 21.5 to 23.5% of sunlight into energy to charge your devices, making it an efficient and (at $70) affordable option that should suit most people’s needs.

The Comparable: Anker PowerPort 21W Solar Charger

Anker is a brand known for its excellent quality and durability. Outdoorgearlab.com ranks the PowerPort 21W just behind the previously mentioned BigBlue charger in terms of charging speed, but it makes up some ground by being far lighter and more compact. It’s also just as durable as it is portable, made with weather-resistant materials that make it great for outdoor use. This unit can charge 2 USB devices simultaneously, and comes with a 3-foot micro-USB cable. For around $65, you get a product with a solid reputation and an impressive 18-month warranty.

The Rugged Choice: Nekteck 21W Solar Charger

Rated “Best for Hiking” by Lifewire, this three-panel solar charger boasts 21% to 24% energy conversion, and smart IC chip technology which charges devices at different speeds, according to their needs. Like most other devices in this price range, it features a rugged design and weather-proof materials, for use in rain or shine. This charger comes with a micro-USB cable and is backed by a one-year warranty. At around $55, it’s slightly more affordable than the competition, and provides exceptional value and performance in most conditions.

The Snazzy One: Goal Zero Nomad 7 Plus Solar Panel

This two-panel foldable charger can power most USB and 12-volt devices, from spotlights to GPS units. It features a rugged design that’s ideal for outdoor activity, and can be hung or propped up with its built-in stand. The Nomad 7 Plus has some cool features not offered by the competition, like automatic shutoff, which stops charging once a device is at 100%, and an LED light that displays the amount of solar energy it is absorbing. This panel can output up to 7 watts through USB, and will run you about $100.

The Wildcard: Hiluckey Outdoor Portable Power Bank

If you’re looking for a solar charger with a little something extra, this rugged, 4-panel model has a built-in battery bank that can charge an average phone 8 to 10 times on one charge. It features two USB 2.1A ports that can be used simultaneously, is dust- shock- and waterproof, and has an emergency LED flashlight, making it ideal for camping, hiking and other outdoor activities. Unlike direct solar phone chargers, the Hiluckey’s solar panels are small and charge more slowly, but solarreviews.com still calls it “a great choice for anyone looking for a reliable way to charge their phones while outdoors.”

So there you have it. Which solar charger is right for you? If you’re looking to charge multiple devices simultaneously, be sure to choose a model with the right number of USB ports. If you want to save some power for later, a charger with a built-in power bank is probably the right choice.

Sometimes getting up to change the thermostat is just too much effort, and for occasions like that, Ecobee has this Smart Thermostat. This $250 Alexa-enabled thermostat allows you to alter your home’s temperature via your smartphone or via voice control. It also comes with a remote sensor that monitors ambient temperature and can adjust settings accordingly. And with Alexa built-in, it can even act as its own smart speaker – although that’s more of a secondary feature.

Smart Security: Arlo Pro 3

This Arlo system takes security cameras to a whole new level. This wire free set-up costs $400 and includes two cameras, but offers an array of advanced camera features, including 30 day cloud storage for your footage, package detection for deliveries and customisable activity zones, which can all be monitored via your smartphone. Techradar labelled it their best security camera pick, praising its video quality and its ability to integrate with other smart home devices, like those with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

Smart Home Voice Assistant: Amazon Echo Dot with Clock (3rd generation)

Voice controls are at the center of a lot of smart home devices. Amazon’s Echo Dot still remains one of the best smart speakers, and it’s massively compatible with a lot of other smart home devices too, including the aforementioned light bulbs and thermostats. With the $85 Alexa-enabled Dot, you can get quick access to everything from weather reports to restaurant reviews. And it’s great for playing music during parties, too. Although you can get it without a clock, we’d recommend going for the clock version, especially if you plan to have it it your bedroom.

Before we reveal our last pick, here are a few bonus products that we wanted to give a shout out:

Amazon Echo Studio

August Smart Lock Pro

eufy Wi-Fi Video Doorbell

The Smart Plug: WeMo Insight Smart Plug

If you’re energy-conscious, then this highly-affordable $40 smart plug from Belkin could make a  great addition to your home. Giving you the ability to monitor a device’s energy usage and estimate how much said usage will cost, this tablet and smartphone-compatible smart plug will have you thinking differently about your plug-in devices. This smart plug can also connect to a range of smart home platforms, including Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Nest – for seamless smart home connectivity.

So which smart home device should you choose? Well, some are more of a novelty than others, so just be sure you’re going to actually use the device before buying – especially if it’s expensive!
