5 Careers You Didn’t Know Barbie Had

5 Careers You Didn't Know Barbie Had

Two hundred. That’s how many careers that Barbie has had in the over sixty years since her debut in 1959, and this multi-talented Jackie-of-all-trades is showing no signs of retiring anytime soon. With a résumé as extensive as this one, there are bound to be a few surprises here and there. We’re taking a little peek into the “work history” section and reporting on the most surprising careers you didn’t know Barbie had.

Surgeon

Funko Rock Candy: 1973 Barbie Surgeon Action Figure

Barbie was teaching children what nurses do as early as 1961 and has since traversed the entire medical field as a doctor, dentist, veterinarian, ophthalmologist, and paramedic. Her stint as a surgeon was probably the most intense medical job that Barbie ever had, but she took up the challenge in 1973, complete with scrub tie cap and facial mask. Funko even brought the design back as a collectable vinyl figurine.

Film Producer

Barbie is no stranger to performance. She’s been a dancer, singer, rapper, musician, and actor, after all. (Are you still a triple threat when you can do more than three things?) But even Barbie needs to pursue new artistic challenges from time to time. Barbie tried out being on the other end of the camera in 2003 when she became an independent film producer as part of the 1 Modern Circle™ collection. No word yet on the Rotten Tomatoes reviews.

Robotics Engineer

Barbie Robotics Engineer Doll

The past ten years have seen a technological explosion, and Barbie was up to the challenge, taking on jobs as a computer engineer in 2010 and a game developer in 2016. In 2018, she decided to take further strides into the technology by adding robotics to the list. Her robotic creation and laptop showing a related computer program are meant to inspire young minds to explore the wonders of the STEM field.

US Marine Corps

The marine corps is known for having one of the most rigorous training regiments of all the US military. Barbie apparently not only put in the work but had the grit and determination to be promoted to sergeant in 1991. This is especially impressive given that of the nearly 200,000 marines serving at that time, only about .5 percent of them were women. Of course, knowing Barbie, we shouldn’t be surprised. She was also in the army, navy, and air force, after all.

McDonald’s Cashier

Barbie Loves McDonald's Playset New Sealed Mattel 1982 VHTF #Mattel | Barbie, Vintage barbie dolls, Mattel barbie

Given she’s been the president of the United States, a McDonald’s cashier may be one career you didn’t know Barbie had. But in 1983, Barbie showed everyone that every career is important by joyfully taking a job at the globally recognized fast food chain. While no one has asked her opinion about her time at McDonald’s, we’re sure she was loving it.

Best Modern Pop Piano Players of the 21st Century (So Far)

Best Modern Pop Piano Players of the 21st Century (So Far)

Pop pianists spent the entire last century molding our music. From Scott Joplin to Jerry Lee Lewis to Elton John, ebony and ivory have been working together in harmony, and they haven’t stopped since Y2K. Since it would take much longer to highlight every incredible pop pianist in history, we’ve narrowed our list to a small selection of the best modern pop piano players of this century (so far)!

Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys began training in classical piano, studying composers like Beethoven, Chopin, and Mozart. By twelve, she was composing and by age thirteen she was immersed in the world of the music business. Keys fought for creative freedom, crafting her own sound despite industry pressure to conform to a certain look and style. Now with 15 Grammy wins and 29 nominations and awards from the NAACP, MTV, the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, and Billboard Music, to name a few, there is no doubt this icon helped set the musical tone for the century.

John Legend

When John Legend is brought up, many people think of his 2013 hit, “All of Me.” But Legend has woven his way through music throughout the 2000s. Along with playing and singing on the albums of artists like Lauryn Hill, Kanye West, the Black-Eyed Peas, Fergie, and more, Legend’s Grammy-nominated song “Ordinary People” hit number 4 on Billboard’s charts. In 2005, he also performed in the iconic campaign video, “Yes We Can,” by will.i.am, weaving him into US history as well as music history.

The Piano Guys

Although not known for performing original pieces, this two-man group consisting of cellist Stephen Sharp Nelson and Pianist Jon Schmidt transform pop music like no one else does. What began as a simple marketing technique to promote their piano store by covering pop songs fused with classical pieces has led to a YouTube channel with over 2 billion views and eight records. They are known to push the limits of the genre and the piano itself as they perform in ice caves, on top of mountains, and on top of moving trains. Though unconventional, they’ve certainly earned their place among the best modern pop piano players.

With technology getting more advanced, file sizes are getting bigger – and so is the requirement of our storage solutions. That’s where external hard drives come in. But with so many on sale, which one should you buy? Well, to help you decide, we’ve sifted through numerous website and consumer reviews to present our 5 recommended products.

Note: Clicking links in this article may generate affiliate revenue for GetMojo.

The Front Runner: Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB

This hard drive doesn’t necessarily have any frills, but it’s affordable, capacious and gets the job done. At just $68, this USB 3.0 Seagate hard drive gives you 2TB of storage and is packaged in a slimline shell for easy portability and storage. It may not have the fastest transfer speed out there, but it’s great for casual users and those who need a spacious back-up drive.

The Workstation One: Western Digital My Book 12TB External Hard Drive

Not all of us need to stick our hard drives in a bag or coat pocket. So if you tend to stay glued to a desk, then this desktop hard drive, which is available in numerous sizes – up to 24TB in fact – is a great option. Our pick is the 12TB option, which supports the popular USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 connections. It also has a 360MB/s sequential read speed. Its price tag is quite large at $350,  but so is its storage capacity.

The Portable One: SanDisk 1TB Extreme Pro Portable SSD

We’re switching gears next, as we go from desktop-bound to super mobile. If you need pocket-sized storage that’s rugged enough to take a bit of a beating,  then this 1TB SanDisk model is definitely worth a look. Boasting a transfer speed of up to 550MB/s, this 1TB hard drive is also IP55-rated, meaning it’s water and dustproof, and can survive 6 foot drops onto concrete. You do pay for the added durability however, as it’s priced at $160.

The Security-Conscious One: iStorage diskAshur DT2 2TB External Hard Drive

Having your work backed-up on a hard drive is all well and good – but what happens if your work is sensitive and it’s stolen? For the security-conscious people out there, iStorage has this $210 option. As well as offering PIN authentication when you go to use it, this hard drive also offers military-grade encryption, which basically makes it unhackable. It also has a tamper proof design, and a feature that can effectively self-destruct your information after a certain number of failed attempts to access it.

Before we reveal our last pick, here are a few other great products that are worth considering:

Samsung T5 Portable 500GB SSD

LaCie Rugged Mini 5TB External Hard Drive

Western Digital 2TB Elements Portable External Hard Drive

The Rugged One: Adata SD700 1TB Ruggedized SSD

The SanDisk model we mentioned previously is pretty tough, but this Adata SSD takes things up a notch. As well as being super palm-of-your-hand compact, and offering 440MB/s transfer speed thanks to it being a solid state drive, this Adata hard drive also carries a IP68 rating. That means it’s waterproof, dustproof and shockproof. We really like the secure cover that fits over the drive’s port too. And at just $130, it’s really affordable for what you get.

So which external hard drive should you buy? Well, it can be tempting to buy a huge 20TB hard drive that’s bulletproof, but just be sure that you’re only buying what you realistically need, otherwise things can get expensive.

Running out of battery downright sucks. But with portable power banks now available for many of our devices, you can pretty much make that a thing of the past. The question is, which power bank do you buy? Well, to help you decide, we’ve sifted through numerous website and consumer reviews to present our 5 recommended products.

Note: Clicking links in this article may generate affiliate revenue for GetMojo.

The Front Runner: Anker PowerCore 10,000mAh Portable Charger

This 10,000mAh power bank is one of the most portable options out there, offering enough power to comfortably recharge two cell phones – with power to spare. It may not be as fast as some other power banks, but for its respective power output, it’s fast enough. Compatible with both Android and Apple smartphones, this $30 Anker power bank has over 21,000 consumer reviews on Amazon, 82 per cent of which are 5 star. That’s impressive.

The Comparable: RAVPower 20,000mAh Power Bank

If you’re after a bit more juice, then this RAVPower model offers twice as much as the aforementioned Anker model, with 20,000mAh. This model is a little bulkier, but it’s still incredibly streamlined and portable – and only costs around $30. Plus, it’s capable of charging two devices at the same time, with enough power to completely recharge both a mobile and tablet device simultaneously. And it too is compatible with both Android and Apple products.

The Wireless One: Aukey PB-Y25 8,000mAh Wireless Charging Power Bank

For those who dislike being entangled in wires, Aukey has this wireless power bank model. Capable of charging a multitude of different Qi-compatible devices, from smartphones to handheld game consoles, this $30 USB-C and USB-A power bank can charge two devices at the same time. And for those worried about limiting themselves to wireless charging, fear not, it can also be used as a regular wired power bank.

The Mini One: Poweradd Slim 2 5,000mAh Power Bank

Most portable power banks are relatively compact, but this one is in a whole different league. At around four inches long and one inch wide, this highly-portable power bank is available in a range of different colors and has been praised for its particularly impressive short-term charging speed. It may only offer one output port and 5,000mAh of power, but it’s ideal for those who want to stay streamlined – and it costs just around $12!

Before we reveal our last pick, we wanted to give a shout out to a few other great portable power banks:

Nimble 10-Day Fast Portable Charger

iMuto X6 Pro Portable Charger

Anker PowerCore 20,100mAh Power Bank

The Laptop One: MAXOAK 50,000mAh Laptop Power Bank

For those who frequently travel with multiple devices – including laptops, MAXOAK has this behemoth 50,000mAh/185Wh power bank. Capable of charging six devices at once, like a laptop, phone and tablet, this thing is more like a portable generator than a power bank, and it’s ideal for when you are working away on a train or in a coffee shop and need to give your tech a boost. It’s not for air travel, as due to its capacity, it’s not TSA-approved. It’s pricey, at around $130, but if portable peace of mind is what you’re after, then look no further.

So which portable power bank should you choose? Well, that depends. Is there a slim chance you’ll need to charge your phone… or a big chance you may have to charge your laptop? Just be sure to choose the appropriate model with the right amount of power.

If you’re out camping, then the last thing you want to be worrying about is keeping yourself sheltered from the elements at night. And so, a suitable tent is a must have. But with so many different tents out there, which one should you choose? Well, to help you decide, we’ve sifted through numerous website and consumer reviews to present our 5 recommended products.

Note: Clicking links in this article may generate affiliate revenue for GetMojo.

The Front Runner: Marmot Limestone

A lot of tents pride themselves on one particular offering, but this $350 Marmot Limestone pretty much has a bit of everything. As well as having enough space for 4 people – 60 square foot of interior space to be exact – it’s also very easy to set-up, thanks to its color coded, pre-bent poles. It’s also been praised for its impressive weather-resistance, with review website Gearjunkie saying that the tent remained “completely unfazed” following sudden high winds and heavy rains while testing in the Rocky Mountains. Its large doors also allow for easy access.

The Budget Option: Coleman Sundome

Looking for a cheap way to get out in the wild? Well, for just $70, this Coleman 4-person tent will do a pretty decent job. The Sundome model has 63 square feet of space, and comes with everything you’ll need, from guylines to stakes. It’s also received over 11,000 Amazon reviews, with almost 80 percent of them being 5-stars. It may not be as rock solid as other, more expensive tents when it comes to battling extreme weather, but in fair conditions, it will be a great companion.

The One-Person Tent: Kelty Salida

For all those solo expeditionists out there, Kelty has this $145 option. With 20 square feet of space – including a six square foot vestibule area – this Salida model isn’t huge, but for what it lacks in size, it makes up for in convenience features. These include a backpack-friendly size and weight, and a simple-to-set-up, two pole construction. With users able to quickly pitch shelter, without the aid of others, it’s ideal for those who want to stay on the move as much as possible.

The Family Choice: The North Face Wawona

Ideal for families or explorers who want a tent roomy enough to walk about in, this six person Wawona model boasts 86 square foot of space, which includes a garage-like, 21 square foot vestibule area. But it’s not just spacious – review website Outdoorgearlab praised its impressive weather-resistance and its ease of set-up, claiming that just one person would be able to assemble it. It may seem pricey at $400, but for the space and durability you get, it represents excellent value for money.

The Quick Set-Up Option: Caddis Rapid 6

Fear not, it is possible to have a quick-pitch tent that’s fit for more than one person. Enter this Caddis Rapid model, which, with its pre-attached poles, allows for a super quick set-up and space for up to six people (i.e. 100 square feet of interior space). Basically, you take it out of the bag and extend the poles, then you’re good to go. Priced at $300, this tent is aimed at those who want a quick and easy set-up, enough headroom for standing up, and enough floor space for a table and chairs.

To find more information or buy this product, click here.

So which tent should you choose? Well, that depends on how experienced you are at pitching them, and how many there are in your party. So make sure you think long and hard about both of those things before buying.

It also boasts an impressive 200 pound load capacity – so adults can be sure of its structural integrity when riding. One consumer on Amazon said that it’s fun but also makes for the “perfect utility vehicle.”

The Comparable: Razor Dirt Rocket MX650

Priced at around $500, this electric bike boasts a 650-Watt electric motor, which is powered by three 12-Volt batteries. And that’s good for speeds of up to 17 miles per hour. The dual suspension of this bike makes for great comfort all-round – plus it boasts a weight capacity of 220 pounds. Futuresport calls it a “steal deal.”

The Budget Option: Monster Moto MM-E1000-BB

One of the most affordable and capable electric bikes on the market, at just $250, this 1000-Watt electric mini bike is capable of speeds of up to 17 miles per hour and can accommodate riders of up to 185 pounds. It also takes just 6 hours to fully charge, and then subsequently offers a run time of around 45 minutes. Although perfectly fit for adults, if you’re after a bike your teenagers can enjoy – specifically those who are 14 years and older, then this is an excellent choice.

The Other Budget Option: Razor Dirt Rocket MX350

Speaking of options for younger riders, we wanted to throw another budget electric bike your way, also priced at around $250. Aimed at riders from 13 years and up, and with a weight limit of 150 pounds, the MX350 can reach up to 14 miles per hour and cover up to 10 miles off a single charge. Sure, this model may not be as powerful as the Monster Moto model, but for what it lacks in power, it makes up for in realistic, motocross-style aesthetics.

The Looker: XtremepowerUS 40CC

Without a doubt the coolest and most motorcycle-like model on this list, this 40CC XtremepowerUS model is perfect for those who want to look and feel like they own the real deal. Available in a variety of colors, and boasting a top speed of up to 18 miles per hour, this $300 gas-powered bike can support riders of up to 165 pounds. And a full fuel tank will keep you going for around 26 miles.

So which mini bike should you choose? Well there are clearly both adult and child options out there, so be sure to decide on who you’re buying it for before taking the plunge.

Top Reasons to Have a Home Theater

Top Reasons to Have a Home Theater

In the days of COVID-19, it has never been a better time to make your dream of having a home theater a reality. If you didn’t think about having a home theater until now, you’re welcome, but if you’re looking for the top reasons to have a home theater, we’ve got you covered. Read our guide below to learn more.

You have full control over everything

Believe it or not, a lot of movie theaters have outdated technology. A home theater gives you the power to install state of the art technology that provides better audio and visual quality. We know the saying, “if it’s too loud, you’re too old,” but have you ever been to a movie theater where the sound was way too loud? It completely ruins the movie! The best way to fix it is to install a home theater, of course. This allows you to control the volume and the remote so you can finally pause for bathroom breaks.

Snacks and drinks are better and way cheaper

The movie theater popcorn alone costs an arm and a leg, and while it’s really good, is it really worth it? A home theater allows you to make your own homemade snacks that are probably tastier, healthier, and cheaper. Movie theater drinks are also very expensive. Whether you want an adult beverage, a soda, or even a water, you won’t break the bank on refreshments in your own home theater.

You’ll always have the best seat

While a lot of movie theaters have designated seating nowadays, not every theater got the memo. Everyone has their own idea of what the best seat in the house is, and you’ll get it every time with your own theater. Install some awesome reclining seats, along with other essential home theater items, and you’ll be on your way to the best theater experience ever.

Whether you admit it or not, everyone has thought about installing a home theater in their house at one point or another. While there are tons of reasons to have a theater in your house, we wanted to give you just a few of the top reasons to have a home theater. Besides, we’re in the middle of a global pandemic—now is the time to set up that theater you’ve always dreamt of.

Top 5 Best Bluetooth Mice (2020)

Welcome to GetMojo, we do the research so you don’t have to! In this video, we’re offering our picks for the 5 best bluetooth mouses on the market in 2020.

For the most part, wires are a thing of the past, at least when it comes to things like computer mice. And as with most Bluetooth tech, the options available on the market can be a bit overwhelming. But not to worry, we’re here to help. We’ve sifted through numerous website and consumer reviews to present our 5 recommended products.

Note: Clicking links in this article may generate affiliate revenue for GetMojo.

The Front Runner: Logitech MX Master 2S Wireless

Although it may look like a gaming mouse, this Logitech model is built for productivity. With programmable buttons, a wide sensitivity range and a rechargeable 70-day battery, this $100 mouse is the perfect office companion, especially for those who like an ergonomically-sound pointer. Its Bluetooth connectivity is impressive too as it’s capable of connecting with up to three devices at once.

The Gaming Option: Razer Viper Ultimate

We can’t overlook gaming when it comes to computer mice – and the $130 Razer Viper Ultimate is one of the best on the market. But what makes it a gaming mouse? Well, as well as offering a slimline design, cool charging dock with RGB lighting and 20,000 DPI sensitivity, the mouse itself features 8 programmable buttons, of which are set up for ambidextrous use. It is better suited to gamers with smaller hands however – particularly those who favor a fingertip grip gaming style.

The Comfort Option: Logitech MX Vertical

If you value comfort over everything else, and want to reduce the risk of long-term conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome, then Logitech’s MX Vertical mouse is worth a look. Although it may take a little getting used to, its unique design is aimed at alleviating strain on hand and wrist muscles. Priced at around $100, it also comes with a rechargeable battery that claims to offer months of use from a full charge.

The Mac Option: Apple Magic Mouse 2

If you’re an Apple fan after style and portability, then check this one out. Priced at $74, this glass and metal-constructed mouse feels very up-market and is super slimline, allowing it to easily fit inside a compact laptop bag, or even a jacket pocket. But its main draw is its touch-sensitive controls. Unlike other mice, the Magic Mouse 2 doesn’t feature any buttons – but instead features a Multi-Touch surface that allows you to scroll and swipe. You can match its color with your Mac too!

The Microsoft Option: Microsoft Surface Mobile Mouse

Similar to the Apple mouse, this $32 Microsoft Surface mouse is aimed at those after a stylish and minimal product. Called “elegant,” “streamlined” and “ergonomic” by Digital Trends, this Microsoft mouse features a slim profile, but still offers a conventional scroll wheel. It boasts an impressive up-to-one-year battery life too, using AAA batteries. In fact, it’s even compatible with MacOS, so if the $70 Magic Mouse 2 is a little steep, then why not try marrying the Microsoft mouse with your Mac!

So which bluetooth mouse should you choose? Well, if you’re putting in long hours, be sure to pay attention to comfort and fatigue-reducing design and functions.

Top 5 Bike Helmets (2020)

Welcome to GetMojo, we do the research so you don’t have to! In this video, we’re offering our picks for the 5 best bike helmets on the market in 2020.

Gearing up with the right lycra clothing and clip-in cleats for cycling is important, but arguably the most important cycling accessory is your helmet. It keeps you safe, streamlined and stylish. But which one is right for you? Well, to help you decide, we’ve sifted through numerous website and consumer reviews to present our 5 recommended products.

Note: Clicking links in this article may generate affiliate revenue for GetMojo.

The Front Runner: Specialized Echelon II

You’ll sometimes find yourself compromising on comfort, safety or style with bike helmets. But the Echelon II ensures you don’t have to. Boasting crash test certifications from CPSC and Snell, a fully-adjustable retention system that wraps all the way around your head and excellent ventilation, the Echelon II has a bit of everything. Priced at $90, its features are akin to that of a much more expensive product. Or, as review site Wirecutter says, “it’s a lot of helmet for what you pay.”

To find more information or buy this product, click here.

The Comparable: Smith Optics Trace

Notably more expensive than the Echelon II, the $200 Smith Trace is for those who like to keep up with the latest advancements in design. The Trace incorporates the brand’s famed Aerocore feature, a sleek honeycomb-like panel design aimed at improving airflow and absorbing energy in the event of a crash. This helmet is also highly-adjustable and offers one of the coolest designs out there.

The Enhanced Safety Option: Bell Z20

Although all bike helmets are designed with safety in mind, for this model, as with the previous Trace offering, proprietary MIPS technology is included to give enhanced protection in the event of a collision. And thankfully, the skeletal MIPS roll cage built into this Bell helmet still allows for sufficient airflow. Priced at $215, it’s expensive, but it’s incredibly well-rounded in terms of protection. Bell even offers a low-cost helmet replacement scheme, in case you damage your helmet in a crash.

The Budget Option: Schwinn Intercept

If you’ve spent all your money on a new bike – or you don’t cycle that frequently, then you might want to limit your budget when it comes to buying a helmet. And for just $20, this Schwinn Intercept helmet can be yours. Sure, it may only come in one size, but it does come with a dial-adjustable fit system, and it even comes with the option to remove its built-in visor, although we don’t recommend that, for safety reasons.

The Stylish Option: Thousand Heritage Collection

If you’re an urban rider who takes style seriously, then this Thousand Heritage anti-theft helmet should be on your short list. Inspired by the simplicity of old motorcycle helmets, this model features a matte rubberized finish and vegan leather straps with a magnetic buckle – and it’s easily adjustable. The rear badge on the helmet even pops off, to allow you to lock the helmet to your bike. It’s reasonably priced too, at just $89.

So which helmet should you choose? Well, the majority of bike helmets on the market offer their own unique twist, whether that’s enhanced comfort, style or safety. So just be sure you’re not paying for something you don’t need.
