New Cats Trailer is Out And the Internet is Feline Unsure

Universal just dropped the official trailer for Tom Hooper’s take on the famous Andrew Lloyd-Webber musical and before we go on, you’ll need to see it for yourself below.

The trailer features the likes of James Corden, Judi Dench, Jason Derulo, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson, Ian McKellen, Taylor Swift and Rebel Wilson, all CGI’d into theatrical cat-human hybrids. But, for such an established cast and even more established source material, the trailer seems to be receiving quite an array of online cat calls.

The trailer had more than 100,000 views in one hour and the #Cats hashtag is still trending on Twitter, with fans freely sharing their opinions of these primary clips.

‘Are cats supposed to walk on two legs??’ “OMG TAYLOR SWIFT HAS BEEN TRANS-MOG-IFIED”.

Audiences are objecting to the horror mood in the trailer, for example Youtuber Charlotte Eller commenting: “Taylor I love you but this is going to give me nightmares!”.

Some viewers even went so far as to say that at first glance, it appeared to be a Tim Burton film, with part CGI, part live-action look of the feline characters coming off as more eerie than theatrically welcoming. “Us” director Jordan Peele agrees…

But hey, people were unsure about the first live-action “The Lion King” trailer too and if you haven’t already listened to that new soundtrack 5 times you’re lying to yourself. So perhaps “Cats” will be a crowd favorite as well.

How are you feeling about this adaptation of “Cats” the musical? Let us know in the comments and be sure to check out our list of Every Single Upcoming Movie Musical, below!
