“Mindhunter” Season 2 CONFIRMED – 5 Things You NEED To Know

“Mindhunter” Season 2: Coming soon to a TV Near You

Did you burn through the first season of Netflix’s “Mindhunter” and can’t wait for more? Fret not, faithful binge-viewer, season 2 is on its way.

The official “Mindhunter” twitter account teased fans with a short, Rorschach test-inspired clip promising the return of this critically-acclaimed crime drama from the mind of Joe Penhall.

Here are 5 facts you need to know about “Mindhunter” in anticipation of its second season:

#5: It’s Inspired by a True Crime Book

Television isn’t exactly short on crime dramas or police procedurals, but few can boast source material written by one of the founding fathers of criminal profiling. “Mind Hunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit” recounts the harrowing crimes faced by FBI agent turned author John E. Douglas during his time with the Bureau and takes a deep dive into how psychology played a role in solving each crime. Sound familiar? It should. He served as the inspiration for Jack Crawford in the Hannibal Lecter series. Though the main character is named Holden Ford in the Netflix series, much like Jack Crawford, Ford is modeled after John E. Douglas.

#4: The Leading Man Comes with an Impressive Resume

Speaking of Holden Ford… Netflix managed to nab a rather talented young man to bring this version of John E. Douglas to life. Jonathan Groff might not be a household like some of the behind-the-scenes players we’ll be discussing later on, but he’s certainly an accomplished actor. His role as King George III in Hamilton earned him a TONY award nomination. From 2014 to 2016, he starred in the HBO series “Looking”. Though he got his start in theater, he came to the attention of a much larger audience after stealing scenes in the role of Jesse St. James on Glee. Oh, and did we mention that he voiced Kristoff in Disney’s Frozen? Talented indeed.

#3: The Series Delivers a Disturbing and Realistic Tone

How does a show distinguish itself in an oversaturated genre? By approaching that well-tread thematic ground from a refreshing new direction. Mindhunter is not particularly interested in the dirty details of the crimes themselves, but rather the minds behind them. The series doesn’t obsess or fetishize the violence like so many of its contemporaries. As James Poniewozik of the New York Times put it so succinctly, Mindhunter “is more chatter than splatter”. The sobering series works to dismantle the cult of the serial killer by breaking them down to their psychological profiles. Don’t get us wrong, there are plenty of horrifying moments, they just tend to come via conversation rather than a shot of a dismembered corpse.

#2: It Boasts Some BIG Name Producers

The even pacing, realism, and attention to detail of this series shouldn’t really surprise you considering the man behind it. David Fincher, who has delved deep into the subject matter of serial killers in such excellent films as “Se7en” and “Zodiac”, serves as executive producer of Mindhunter and actually directed four out of the ten episodes in the first season. Of course, he’s not the only celeb involved. A-list actress Charlize Theron joins him as a fellow executive producer. Of course, both of these big names have worked with Netflix as producers before – Fincher on House of Cards, and Theron with Girlboss. Clearly, they enjoy the way Netflix works!

#1: The Show Deals with Real Criminals From History

Douglas’ book is not a work of fiction. In it, he provides a firsthand account of his experiences dealing with some of the most notorious serial killers and criminals in United States history. Serial killers might be a dime a dozen on television these days, but in Mindhunter, you’re getting dramatic interpretations of real-life murderers from the pages of America’s colorful criminal past. Edmund Kemper, aka the Co-Ed Killer, Monte Ralph Rissel, Jerry Brudos, aka the Shoe Fetish Slayer, Richard Speck, and Darrell Gene Devier are just a handful of the sinister individuals you’ll see brought to life in this dramatic series. Be warned though… you’ll be taking a close look into some seriously twisted minds.

Top 5 Characters Who Are Likely To Die In Avengers: Infinity War

Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow

Over the last decade we have come to adore the characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. No matter how tough their situations got, we knew that the likes of Iron Man, Captain America and the rest would always come out of the other side. After all, the good guys always save the day, right?

Well, now things are a little different. With the arrival of the galactic tyrant Thanos, fans have been made painfully aware that some Avengers are not going to survive the Infinity War.

Everyone is speculating by this point, but given the recent news that this era of the MCU is now coming to a close, its clear that all but a few are safe from harm, and that’s only because we know they have sequels coming out!

Which is why we have decided to countdown the characters that are the most likely to fall in battle against the might of Thanos, no matter how much we want them all to live…

#5: Nebula

Thanos’ abused daughter has sworn revenge against her adoptive father after he tortured her and turned her into a cyborg. While we’re all for her taking her vengeance against him, going on a one woman crusade against the most powerful being in the universe is not the brightest of ideas…

#4: Iron Man

It all began with Tony Stark, and the likelihood is that it will end with Tony Stark. At least that was what we thought until we saw Thanos turning him into a punching bag. While he perhaps might just squeeze through to Avengers 4, we don’t put it above the Russo brothers to kill off the Genius Billionaire Playboy Philanthropist in a final scrap. We don’t want to imagine a world without Tony Stark, but its starting to seem more and more likely…

#3: Captain America

They say Cap can’t live without a war, then what better way to go out than with a war that consumes the entire cosmos? Returning from exile without his shield and with a beard, it’s clear that Steve Rogers is going to bust a few heads before he kicks the bucket. Can you think of a more fitting way for Cap to go than via the ultimate patriotic sacrifice?

#2: Bucky Barnes

While Captain America’s demise is starting to look pretty likely, there’s no way his best buddy will manage to outlast him. Seeking redemption for his past wrongdoings, Bucky will undoubtedly throw himself into the fire during the final battle. He’s sure to put up one hell of a fight though!

#1: The Vision

Thanos is hunting down the Infinity Stones, Vision has one right in the middle of his forehead. Yep, he is a dead man. While we’re sure its not going to be as simple as the trailer made it out to be, we feel that there’s very little chance of Wanda’s new love interest making it out alive.

Top 5 Things We Want To See In The New Spider-Man Video Game

Load Up Your Web-Shooters!

The Spider-Man games have been a little bit hit and miss over the years. On the one hand we have the adaptation of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2, which is renowned as the greatest movie-based game of all time. Then you have more recent blunders such as the Amazing Spider-Man games. All in all, its been a while since old web-head got himself a real stellar video game baring his name.

At least until now.

From the developers of the Ratchet & Clank series, Insomniac Games’ take on Spider-Man has fans more than a little excited, especially after getting a look at the cinematic gameplay.

There’s certainly a lot to look forward to, and going by the developers’ resume it’s at the very least going to make for an entertaining time. Which is why we have decided to list the content that we hope to see in one form or another in the hope that this game can push Spidey back up into the higher echelons of quality video games.

#5: Photography

While Peter Parker’s job as a photographer for the Daily Bugle is used more for comedy purposes, especially with his interactions with J. Jonah Jameson, we would actually like to see Peter use these skills in an interesting way. We knows he’s not Batman, but seeing him use his trade to help him investigate crimes and news stories would help the game stand apart from every other one that came before.

#4: Peter Parker

Yeah, we’re here for the superhero in the red and blue tights, but that doesn’t mean Peter Parker should be pushed to the side and turned into a uninteresting character. Instead of just appearing in cut-scenes, hopefully we will see Peter get his own gameplay sections that will be fundamentally different from his alter ego’s, but still just as engrossing to play.

#3: Boss Battles and Reimagined Villains

Sometimes the only way to stay fresh is to mix things up, even bend things that have remained untouched in previous iterations. Spider-Man’s villains are iconic, though for a video game many of them could do with a little bit of an update. We know for a fact Spidey will be battling Mister Negative, but maybe we can hope to see other characters make an appearance and bring with them some unique and challenging boss fights?

#2: Side Missions

And we’re not talking about fetch quests! Give us overlapping, extensive missions with their own storylines that see Spidey take on all facets of crime in New York City. We’re not expecting Witcher 3: Wild Hunt levels here, but a select few well-crafted narratives would really manage to elevate the game to greater heights. Hopefully Insomniac Games will refrain from giving us the pizza delivery missions…

#1: Make New York Feel BIG!

Open-world games are all the rage these days, and from what we have seen so far New York looks absolutely stunning. Hopefully that’s not all surface level. To be able to swing and crawl around every surface in the city and explore every single crevice would serve as a great foundation for the rest of the game. Linear pathways haven’t really served the web-head well in the past, so if the setting is a vast and packed with engaging content then we’re pretty sure half the battle is already won.

Want To Look Like A Space Cowboy? Spike Spiegel’s Iconic Outfit Is Now On Sale!

Let’s Jam!

There’s no getting around it; Spike Spiegel might be the most stylish fictional characters to ever grace both screen and page. Granted, a lot of that comes from his marksmanship skills, affinity for martial arts, daredevil attitude and the way he rocks that hairstyle of his to utter perfection.

However, at least a fraction of his undeniable swagger comes from his slick choice in wardrobe.

While many fans have taken to making their own for cosplay purposes, and to great effect we might add, the space cowboy’s two piece suit has now been made officially available for purchase.

According to an article on Crunchyroll

We’re coming up on the 20th anniversary of Cowboy Bebopon April 3, 1998 (the manga beat it out of the gate with a September ’97 debut). Anime-inspired apparel label Super Groupies is on top of it with a chance to make some of the anime’s classic sense of style your own.

You can adopt the hard-boiled look of Spike Spiegel in a two-piece suit now available for order. The anime’s unforgettable silhouette inspires the motif of its lining, while the high-speed fighter Swordfish II is on the buttons.

Lost love not included.

Snazzy.

Here’s hoping that fans in the west can make purchases just as easy as the ones in Japan. After all, who doesn’t want to live the life of Spike Spiegel? Just as long as you ignore all those gunshot wounds, the missing eye, his overwhelmingly tragic backstory and the general chaos that seems to follow him wherever he goes.

If you’ve still not had your feel of Cowboy Bebop, then be sure to check out the video below to see where the likes of Spike, Faye, Jet and Ed ranked in our picks for the Top 10 Anime That Everyone Needs to Watch!

Spoiler alert, its pretty high.

Ardyn Izunia Is Back: New Final Fantasy XV DLC Set For 2018

We Missed This Dastardly Devil

Final Fantasy has no shortage of villains. Over the years we have had such juggernauts as Sephiroth and Kefka, along with some…less memorable antagonists. Its hard to say exactly where the likes of Ardyn Izunia fits in with this devious roster, but we can’t get enough of this deceptively charming slimeball!

Luckily for us, there’s plenty more Ardyn on the way. According to an article on IGN, we can expect a whole new set of Final Fantasy XV DLC to arrive in 2018, one of which will allow us to play as the fedora-wearing backstabber.

The December update for Final Fantasy XV will include character swapping, and Episode Ardyn is coming next year.

According to the latest Active Time Report, via WCCFTECH, players will be able to switch between Noctis, Gladio, Ignis, and Prompto in battle, and each of them will control as they do in their respective DLC packs.

Next year will also feature the release of at least three DLC episodes, and one of them will focus on Ardyn, Final Fantasy XV’s antagonist. As for the focus of the other DLC packs, Square Enix is saving details to be revealed at a later date.

In an IGN interview at PAX 2017, FFXV Director Hajime Tabata discussed Ardyn, saying he’d like to see stories about Ardyn and Luna fleshed out, as he considers them “incredibly key characters to the story.”

Everyone loves to play the bad guy, so we are eager to explore what makes this stylish usurper tick. Maybe we’ll even get a chance to knock Noctis and the guys down a peg.

Oh, and what about Cindy? If every character is getting their time in the limelight she could at least get her own DLC. Sure, she’s not exactly the best when it comes to combat but you could at least give her her own racing section. Just as long as its a big improvement over the Regalia.

Ode: Grow Home With Musical Puzzles?

Does This Ubisoft Store Exclusive Hit All The Right Notes?

While it wasn’t the most revolutionary of platform games, Grow Home still managed to win fans over with the simple charm of having a robot leap across a giant plant. It was serene, colourful, and a refreshing distraction from other action-orientated indie hits. Plus, BUD was just downright adorable!

Now it seems that developers Ubisoft Reflections have decided to try and up the cuteness with their next project, one that sees a small but equally lovable blob bring joy to the cosmos by spreading the gift of music.

According to an article on PC Gamer

Ubisoft Reflections, the studio behind Grow Home and Atomega, has a new indie-styled “music exploration adventure”out today called Ode. The game tells the tale of Joy, a “small blobby creature” who lives to collect fallen stars and spread joy—hence the name, I suppose—across strange alien worlds.

Ode has no tutorial or guide: Instead, “you’re encouraged to explore its four garden worlds at your own pace,” Ubisoft said.

“Ode lets you experiment in open environments where everything reacts to you. As you collect the orb-like fallen stars scattered throughout each level, you’ll be able to throw them, attract them, and even use them to alter Joy’s form, assuming different shapes to reach new areas,” Ubisoft sort-of explained. “By investigating your surroundings and solving Ode’s musical puzzles, you’ll light up the landscape and add new layers to the soundtrack, gradually creating a musical and visual backdrop tailored to your play style.”

Ubisoft are either very precious or confident about this project since its not even available on Steam, only through their own online store. Let’s hope that Ode has a tune that players can get into.

New Captain On Deck! Carol Danvers Is Confirmed For Avengers 4!

Thanos Had Better Watch Out!

We had already guessed that one of the MCU’s most anticipated new recruits would be joining the battle for the galaxy, but now we have absolute confirmation that Captain Marvel is set to join the rest of the Avenger’s for their fourth cinematic outing.

According to an article on IGN

Scarlett Johansson has confirmed that we’ll be seeing Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel in Avengers 4.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Johansson said that Larson is getting her “feet wet” shooting the Infinity War sequel before shooting her solo movie.

“She’s so great”, Johansson said, “but a really cute thing happened the other day where Hulk is standing next to her and [Avengers 4 co-director] Joe Russo told her to put her hand in front of Mark [Ruffalo]’s face to stop him, and she’s like, “In front of his face?” And they explained, “that’s where his chest is,” and she looks up and yells, “I’m new! I’m new!””

Johansson went onto explain that seeing the new generation of MCU heroes is great, but bittersweet. “I’m like, “damn, girl,” she continued. “It’s very surreal for me to watch these new cast members come in and get their feet wet and breath new life into these characters who are so iconic. I feel a lot of joy for the next generation. It’s a bittersweet feeling but overall it’s a positive one. I feel good about the work we’ve done and the work I’ve done.”

It’s sweet to know that even Academy Award winners can still be starstruck by the machine that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Ms Larson may be the resident newbie, fans have been eagerly awaiting the reveal of what is considered to be one of comics’ most powerful female characters. Not only with her vast set of abilities, but also with her no-nonsense attitude.

Ms Danvers doesn’t take crap from anyone!

Civilization VI’s First Grand Expansion Is On Route For 2018!

Who’s Ready To Rise And Fall?

The Civilization series stands at the very pinnacle when it comes to 4X strategy games. Heck, Civilization V ended up having so much glorious DLC that by the end of it we actually felt like we had created an empire that spanned the globe. One that we could also destroy with the press of a button.

Now it seems that its successor is determined to up the ante, as it was recently announced that Civilization VI’s first expansion was being released early next year.

According to an article on Gamespot

Publisher 2K has revealed the first expansion for Civilization VI, called Rise and Fall. The expansion adds eight civilizations and nine new leaders, along with a variety of new systems to further bolster the turn-based strategy game.

In addition to the new civilizations, Rise and Fall adds eight new world wonders as well as new units, districts, buildings, and improvements. It also expands the Government and Diplomacy systems, allowing you to form new types of partnerships with other civs that can provide new bonuses. It also adds Great Ages and Governors, which are characters that can be hired to further customize a city.

Rise and Fall introduces a number of features designed to level out the playing field in the later game, when it can be hard to catch up to the civilization in the lead. This includes a Loyalty system for cities and other adjustments. For more details, check our preview of Rise and Fall’s new systems.

Civ 6: Rise and Fall launches for PC on February 8, 2018.

Will it manage to live up to such an incredible legacy? After Civilization V: Brave New World, that’s going to be quite the task. Hopefully the expansion will manage to propel Sid Meier’s latest game to even greater heights!

Believe It Or Not, A New X-Files Video Game Is Coming Out In 2018!

Seen Any UFOs Around Here?

Mulder and Scully’s investigations into the paranormal made for some of the best television to ever come out of the 90’s. The chemistry between our leads was a storyline unto itself, and one we couldn’t get enough of. As for the plots of each episode, they could range from hilarious, bizarre to truly horrifying.

Home, anyone?

Last year saw the series return with a tour de force of a tenth season, with the eleventh due early next year. As if that wasn’t enough, if has recently been announced that a brand new video game is on the way, one that sees players face off against the supernatural as an original character.

According to an article on Eurogamer

Publisher FoxNext has announced that a brand-new X-Files game, The X-Files: Deep State, will launch on iOS, Android, and Facebook early next year. It marks the TV series’ first video game spin-off since The X-Files: Resist or Serve appeared on PS2 back in 2004.

You might want to temper your expectations just a little though; The X-Files: Deep State is a free-to-play “mystery investigation” adventure that, unsurprisingly, looks to lie at the more casual end of the gaming spectrum, offering something between an interactive novel and hidden object game.

In Deep State, you play as an unnamed (but apparently customisable) FBI Agent, teaming up with the infuriatingly half-named Agent Dale to investigate “mysterious crime scenes that defy explanation”. In more practical terms, you’ll be exploring environments to uncover hidden clues, collect evidence, solve puzzles, and interrogate witnesses and suspects.

FoxNext says that Deep State’s launch will coincide with the arrival of The X-Files’ 11th TV season, which begins broadcasting on January 3rd, 2018 in the US.

Do you think that this will actually be decent? Or is it nothing more than a cash grab set to whet appetites before season eleven makes its way onto screens?

Top 5 Mononoke Moments

Forming An Opinion? Want The Truth? You Won’t Regret Watching This Anime!

While some may claim it’s more style over substance, this horror anime has still managed to carve its own dazzling mark on the community. It’s certainly blinding when it comes to its visuals, and one might consider it more unnerving instead of downright terrifying, but that doesn’t lessen the impact or the beauty that Mononoke brings to the table!

Trust us, you’re going to want a taste of The Medicine Seller’s merchandise.

Following said enigmatic figure as he hunts down the dangerous entities known as Mononoke, the series that certainly knew how to revel in its traditional Japanese art design, tempered by a mixture of the occult detective genre and some stunning action scenes.

So ready your Sword of Exorcism because we are counting down the top ten most mesmerising moments from this eerily serene anime!

#5: Suicide

In a rather tragic twist, The Medicine Seller’s apparent efforts to free an abused young woman from the lust of a masked Mononoke is revealed to be just a performance to make her realise that she herself has become a Mononoke due to suicide. While not exactly a pleasant note to end on, seeing The Medicine Seller help her find peace is a perfect example of what the anime is all about.

#4: The Wood Did It!

Following the murder of a young lady, The Medicine Seller and her three suitors find themselves competing for control of a supposed mystical piece of wood known as the Toudaiji. As it happens, the suitors have been dead for a long time, each of them killed by the Toudaiji which is in itself is a Mononoke. Seeing through the trickery, The Medicine Seller lets loose his inner lumberjack.

While not as malicious as a Mononoke, this encounter with a spirit known as a Ayakashi demands that each of the passenger on a ship divulge their greatest fear. From there we see some of the series’ most unsettling imagery. A man coughs up massive fish, a young woman gives birth to a demonic-looking child, and a samurai finds himself being devoured by an even bigger fish.

#2: Playing Detective

The finale of the series was by far its greatest episode, as it sprung our nameless protagonist into what appeared into the 1920’s. While aboard a train, a small group of civilians are haunted by a cat-like Mononoke. Through various flashbacks we see that each had a hand in the murder of a young woman, leading The Medicine Seller to locate the true culprit before they are all crushed by the vengeful spirit.
