All aboard the Orient Express! 20th Century Fox has just released the second official trailer for the old-school crime mystery Murder on the Orient Express, starring and directed by multi-hyphenate Kenneth Branagh (that’s Sir to you!). While Branagh has solidified his status in the pantheon of cinema for his Oscar-worthy acting chops (Hamlet, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and last summer’s Dunkirk), he’s directed his fair share of blockbusters, including Thor, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and…Cinderella.
Adapting the classic 1934 novel by Agatha Christie, Branagh assembles an all-star cast of Hollywood past and present for a traditional, yet slick and sexy whoddunnit murder mystery. This isn’t the first time that legendary Inspector Hercule Poirot has boarded the Orient Express (see Sidney Lumet’s 1974 adaptation), but this go-round certainly looks fresh and exciting.
Here’s the official synopsis:
What starts out as a lavish train ride through Europe quickly unfolds into one of the most stylish, suspenseful and thrilling mysteries ever told. From the novel by best-selling author Agatha Christie, “Murder on the Orient Express” tells the tale of thirteen strangers stranded on a train, where everyone’s a suspect. One man must race against time to solve the puzzle before the murderer strikes again. Kenneth Branagh directs and leads an all-star cast including Penélope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Daisy Ridley and Josh Gad.
Fans of the detective-thriller genre (think The Maltese Falcon, Sherlock Holmes, and Clue) should line up to buy their tickets now.
Pro-tip: The movie was shot on 70mm film and will be projected the ol’ fashioned way in select cinemas!
Murder on the Orient Express makes its way into cinemas on November 10, 2017.
