For those suffering from Hokuto Shinken withdrawals, have no fear as a a follow up to the North Star prequel series, Fist of the Blue Sky, has been scheduled for release late this year.
Focusing on the trials and tribulations of Kenshiro Kasumi, spiritual predecessor to the Kenshiro we know and love, this new title may not take place in a post-apocalyptic future, but from the looks of things it is going to feature just as much crazy martial arts as we have come to expect.
According to an article published by Anime News Network –
This year’s October issue of Tokuma Shoten‘s Monthly Comic Zenon magazine confirmed on Friday that the magazine’s December issue will launch a new Souten no Ken (Fist of the Blue Sky) manga series titled Souten no Ken Re: Genesis.
The Fist of the North Star prequel manga, written by Buronson and Nobuhiko Horie with art by Tetsuo Hara, launched in the debut issue of Shinchosha‘s Weekly Comic Bunch in May 2001 and continued until the magazine ceased publication in August 2010. Shinchosha published the series in 22 compiled book volumes.
Gutsoon! Entertainment published part of the manga in English graphic novels and in its Raijin Comics anthology. Gutsoon! described the story:
“It is just before WWII, Kasumi Kenshiro hides as a quiet, absent-minded professor teaching literature at a small women’s college in Tokyo. Once the 62nd Grand Master of Hokuto Shinken, “God Fist of the North Star,” and known has Yan Wang, or “the King of Death,” who preserved the peace in the “City of Devils.” A fighter of thugs and drug dealers, Kasumi seeks anonymity and a quiet life until the death of his lover, and former brothers, forces him to return to Shanghai to fulfill his destiny and avenge the deaths of his associates.”
Vengeance? Death? Absurdly muscular men fighting for honor?
Yep, sounds like our Kenshiro.
